SWVets Christmas News

Only a few more sleeps until Christmas is upon us.  If you are going away over the Christmas period please make sure your pets vaccinations are up to date.  Nobody likes being turned away from catteries or kennels.

If you are travelling with your pet in a vehicle, please remember NEVER leave them in the car unattended in the hot weather.  On a hot day the inside of your vehicle can heat up very quickly, reaching 39 degrees Celsius or more within 5 minutes with an outside temperature of 30 degrees.  Even if you park in the shade this can quickly increase to 49 degrees Celsius with the windows down.  Dogs can suffer brain damage in this kind of heat as they only sweat small amounts through their paws and rely on panting to cool themselves.

Sharing our Christmas fare with our pets can have serious consequences to their health. Chocolate, onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, fatty left overs and cooked bones are just a few things to stay clear of.

Please also be aware of tinsel, batteries and sellotape left lying around for little mouths to chew and swallow.

South Wairarapa Vet clinics will be closed for the Christmas statutory days but our “after hours emergency vet” will be on call during this time.
Featherston clinic’s Wednesday late night will restart on Wednesday 10th January 2018.

To view our clinic hours please check our website www.swvets.co.nz, phone your local clinic or check the ‘opening hours’ on clinic doors.

All the staff at South Wairarapa Vets wish you and your pets a very Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year.
